My Role : UX Research Lead & Product Designer
Goal
To enhance the sleep quality and overall well being by providing a holistic solution that integrates a thoughtfully designed product with an intuitive mobile app to attend restful sleep.
Timeline
3 Months, Jan - Mar 2024
Overview
Bloom began with a mission to explore the booming sleep industry and identify opportunities for impactful design innovation. Through rigorous research and strategic analysis, the team recognized the rising consumer preference for natural sleep solutions and designed a multi-sensory, user centric sleep product that transforms stress into serenity.
Tools
Figma, Figjam, Adobefire fly, Microsoft Word, Keyshot
Problem
"One third of our lives are spent on sleeping, yet 50 Million adults in USA struggle to get quality sleep".
-American Sleep Association Statistics
Key Challenges
We found that sleep deprivation increases stress levels, creating a cycle that leads to further sleep deprivation. Our vision was to transform stress into bliss through consistent, quality sleep.

Solution
An autonomous sleep technology
That offers both relaxation and turns informational insights (app) into actionable outputs (product), transforming the sleep environment into a personalized, tranquil sanctuary.

Bloom comes with an app, that helps as a facilitator of the bloom ecosystem. The app helps in gathering insights and converting it into actionable data.

Offers mood presets that allow users immerse in their preferred customized environment,

The Digital sleep buddy offers motivational feedback and empathetic support, encouraging users to build and maintain a healthy sleep routine
Tracks sleep data, providing insights about sleep stages, nightly cycles, and overall sleep history.
And a bedside sleek and compact blooming vessel, allowing a multi-sensory sleep experience with integrated customizable light, sound, and aroma therapies, along with motion detection, to seamlessly adapt to the nightly routine.

The aroma diffuser is designed to elevate the space with a customizable scent experience.
A 360 degree ambient light that offers different degrees of brightness and assorted color options based on the mood presets.
The speaker can connect to mobile phone to play their preferred sleep sounds, or can access the Bloom app for specific soundscapes from presets.
The motion sensors offer advanced sleep monitoring capabilities to accurately detect and track users' sleep patterns.

Research
Target Audience
We identified health enthusiasts and workaholics as key user segments using a four-box model. Subsequently, we created individual empathy maps to understand their pain points, motivations and needs.

Workaholics

Data to Insights
I led the end-to-end user interview process, prepared the discussion guide, and led the affinity mapping process, organizing and synthesizing raw data into actionable insights with the team. This helped us uncover critical pain points and patterns across our two primary personas.

Empathy Map to understand the needs

How might we empower time-conscious individuals to achieve consistent, quality sleep, enabling them to wake up refreshed and with their full potential?
Finding the Competitors
Using Blue ocean strategy, we identified an untapped market in autonomous solutions that learn user behaviors and integrate seamlessly into daily sleep routines. This discovery guided our initial ideation process.

Value Proposition
With a clear understanding of the market landscape, we crafted value pillars that embody the essence of a multi-sensorial offerings.

Adaptability
To create a solution that seamlessly adjusts to the unique sleep lifestyle of the user.
Empowerment
To empower users to track and take control of their sleep habits.
Quality
To prioritize not just sleep, but quality sleep.
Design
Ideation and Prototyping
Generated 100+ ideas from the HMW question, mapped them on a time-impact 2x2 matrix, and validated the most effective one against the user's Job To Be Done, pains, and gains.

Testing the Potential
During prototyping, we addressed uncertainties around features like temperature control, aroma, and a companion app by developing a concept testing guide.
Goal: To envision the product according to the user's preferences
Findings : Sleek design with portability, ease-of-use and an app controller were highlighted as crucial aspects

Goal: What features do users like to must have vs. nice to have (light, sound, aroma, temperature, motion sensor, alarm, and touch screen ?
Findings: Motion sensors emerged as a unanimous favorite feature out
of 7 features
Guerilla Testing- What would it look like?
Refined the prototype based on our user feedback. The final look resembles a flower, featuring a speaker as the base of the device and adding sturdiness.

For mobile, users highlighted the need for a simple, informative, and user-friendly interface with minimal data overload. Based on feedback, the features were revised to enable multi-sensory personalization, including light, sound, and aromas, with preset mood options and further adjustment capabilities.

Business model canvas
With a clearer idea of our product offering, I made the strategic management too to provide a visual framework for developing business model offering.

Challenges faced during project

Reflections
Strategic Planning Through Methodologies & Tools
Learning an array of methodologies and frameworks and new softwares like Keyshot empowered me to strategically plan and take informed decisions.
Embracing Uncertainty with a User-Centric Approach
While navigating uncertainties, trusting the process and leveraging user centric design and thinking strategically were key highlights leading to a an impactful solution.
A Business-Oriented Approach
The process gave me with a deeper understanding of the product cycle from business point of view.
Overcoming Challenges in User Research & Collaboration
Narrowing down the user group to identify needs was challenging, but collaborative efforts and systematically addressing obstacles led to the final offering.
